Choreographer in Residence: General Summary
Dandylyon Drama is seeking a motivated, compassionate, creative, and courageous person to join our team for the 2025 season as a Choreographer.
Our ideal candidate
- Wants to be part of a supportive Directing Team consisting of Director, Music Director, Choreographer
- Desires consistent weekly afternoon teaching hours
- Can commit to the entire contract length and prioritize supporting final performances
- Loves creating, exploring, and working with a wide variety of student ages kindergarten – high school students (predominantly middle school age)
- Has experience teaching and working with students through creative and artistic lenses
- Is comfortable working independently on curriculum and production planning
- Is equally comfortable working in partnership and asking for help/support when needed
- Is interested in personal and professional growth
- Aligns with Dandylyon Drama’s belief in equity, justice, and inclusion
- Is an excellent communicator
Scope of Work
Spring 2025
Spring Musical Production (Ages 10-16)
Type: Musical Theater Performance on Professional Stage
Location: Shoreline Community College, Shoreline, WA
Weekly Production Meeting Check-In
Location: Virtual via Google Meets
Ideal Candidate Availability for Rehearsals
Essential Choreo rehearsals run:
Mondays or Thursdays – starting late March, 4:30 – 6:30pm
One to two select Saturday and Sunday afternoons TBD, Choreographer Availability
Tech Week & Performances- Choreo support at most tech week rehearsals and performances required- see schedule below.
Second position open- Option to add additional afternoon for “Opening Act” show for ages 6-9, pending candidate availability.
Performances at Shoreline Community College Theatre
- Friday, 6/6 7:00pm (call time 5:30pm)
- Saturday, 6/7 2:00pm (call time 12:30pm) & Saturday, 6/7 5:00pm
Essential Functions and Duties
Curriculum and Rehearsal Planning
- Choreographer is provided training and a guiding curriculum and is expected to familiarize self with our Teaching Artist Handbook
- Cast using best practices, focusing on equity, skill, and potential for growth
- Creatively choreograph songs outside of rehearsal time
- Choreographer is tasked to teach choreography and warm-up activities to students during rehearsal time that align with the broad themes and musicality of the show
- Work closely with Director and Music Director in creating a schedule that fits the production timeline and the creative team’s contracted hours
- Be present and prepared to run rehearsals 2-3 times per week
Leadership & Admin Responsibilities
- Choreographer will be organized and create timelines and deadlines for communication with students and families
- Choreographer will communicate weekly with co-teaching artists to divide up teaching load and make plans to best support healthy environment
- Choreographer will keep track of dance/blocking progress and make sure to adjust rehearsal goals to be on track for performances
- Communicate your availability and goals for rehearsals (calendar will be distributed by the Director)
Relationship Building, Teaching, and Facilitation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students and families
- Lead by example. All communication with students and creative team members should be respectful, kind, and open minded focused on problem solving
- Teach through an equity, arts-based lens, while engaging students on a healthy social-emotional level
- Hold auditions and callbacks (if needed) in a compassionate, growth focused way, aligning yourself and the process with Dandylyon’s mission and growth mindset
- Assist with set-up for class (arrive 15 mins early) and Return the room to the same state it was in before we arrived
- Lead and/or participate in games, warm-ups, and exercises
- Learn students’ names
- Greet students with a smile and introduce them to one another
- Encourage students to participate by using positive language and creating a safe, creative environment to take risks
- Clearly communicate with your co-teachers, assistants, and admin team
- Communicate with Artistic Director and Program Coordinator about any problems, needs, or successes
- Work in collaboration with parent producers and volunteers to offer best practices throughout rehearsals while clarifying needs and expectations
- Prepare outside of class time: movement warm-ups, learning activities, etc. to prepare students for performance
- Prepare students to successfully dance & move in time with backing performance tracks
- Share with students what excellence in Musical Theater performance looks like, provide tools for them to be successful
- Respectfully represent Dandylyon Drama in the community

- Follow Dandylyon Drama health and safety protocols and best practices
- Have a background in arts education and working with students aged 4+
- Submit a background check
- Have current First aid/CPR certification
- Have personal insurance coverage (We can share info about a super affordable resource for this)
- Available for virtual TA/staff meetings

CREATORS Drama Club, Lead Teaching Artist
Theme/Class Types: Comedy Improv, Play Creation or Musical Theater
Student Average Ages: 3rd-6th grade Winter, K-2nd grade Spring
Location: Various schools North King County
Weekly Teaching Artist Training/Check-In
Location: Virtual via Google Meets
Essential Functions and Duties
Curriculum and Rehearsal Planning
- TAs are provided training and a guiding curriculum and is expected to familiarize self with our Teaching Artist Handbook
- TAs are tasked to create blocking, lessons, and activities that align with the broad themes
- TA will work with the Artistic Director to establish a clear and productive rehearsal schedule to succeed in the final goal of performing an original short play at the end of each quarter session.
Leadership & Admin Responsibilities
- TA will be organized and create timelines and deadlines for communication with students and families
- TA will work with the Program & Production Coordinator to communicate supply and costume needs with ample notice
- TA will communicate weekly with co-teaching artists to divide up teaching load and make plans to best support healthy environment
- TA will keep track of cast lists and play titles for creation of playbills
Relationship Building, Teaching, and Facilitation
- Build and maintain strong relationships with students and families
- Teach through an equity, arts-based lens, while engaging students on a healthy social-emotional level
- Respectfully represent Dandylyon Drama in the community
- Lead and/or participate in games, warm-ups, and exercises
